Windshield Wiper

The stopping position on the windshield wipers is not at the bottom of the cycle. The wipers stop 'up' the windsheild about 6 inches, blocking safe driving view. Hi, low or intermittent to stop position is the same. We adjusted the wiper arms so when runing they are the correct path across the windshield bottom to top. Both arms do track identically. Hmmm?

Why would wipers stop above the normal resting position at the bottom of the windsheild?

The wiper arms stopping someplace other than the normal position could be caused by a loose locking nut on the wiper motor where the linkage arm attaches to the motor. To check it you will need to remove the wiper arms by taking off the nuts that hold them on. Then lift the hood and remove the shield covering the wiper motor at the bottom of the windshield. It's attached by five torks screws. You'll have to slightly bend the plastic cover to get the outside ends from inside the fenders. Note:Be careful to not break the groove strip at the bottom of the windshield.

The nut is under the motor. If the arm has fallen off or for some reason it's taken off, make sure you get the wiper motor parked before reinstalling the arm. Before reinstalling the wiper blade arms, run the wiper motor to insure it doesn't bind on anything. Then put it all back together in reverse. Just for info, Advance Auto can get reconditioned wiper motors in a day or two. They cost about $100.00

Good luck,

Stevec

If the wiper isnt reaching the bottom on the down swipe, then you need to replace the arms, as they get stripped. If the wiper is reaching the bottom and then parking elsewhere, then my guess would be a relay issue, or that your wiper motor wasnt in the park position when installed.

Usually only one arm will strip, not both, so Im thinking that your issue is motor related!!
