Guest Guest Posted January 29, 2005 Report Posted January 29, 2005 What's up with sulfur/rotten egg smell? Whenever I drove hard I could smell it when I parked in my garage. Bad cat or something? How can I find out if the cat is bad?Thanks95 850T 170k miles
854TGA+ Posted January 29, 2005 Report Posted January 29, 2005 Check what temp. the cat is with a temp. gun. The smell can be caused by numerous items. Fuel, tuning, how hard you driving it, normal cat burn off. Most likely it is the fuel you are running. Not sure about your fuel but here in S.W. Ontario we have huge amounts of sulpher in the fuel in the winter months. I work for Honda and their thoughts on the smell is too bad!
FINN Posted January 29, 2005 Report Posted January 29, 2005 170k miles and rotten egg smell more than likely is a bad cat. Get 'er done.
DEWFPO Posted January 30, 2005 Report Posted January 30, 2005 A rotten egg smell sometimes means you are putting too much fuel thru the cat (running too rich) which causes the smell. I was able to induce a rotten egg smell from the exhaust on my truck by disconnecting the air bypass valve (less air in system, more fuel) hooked it back up and the smell went away. DEWFPO
