944..... good luck working on the mr2...

also they run low 14's stock.. throw a chip and some exhaust on there and bam your mid 13's.... just make sure the timing belt gets changed as its an interference head..

And your opinion is worth less than .02 junior!

A sligthly modified 944 Turbo (less than 5k spent on it) will have a 930 and 993 Turbo looking @ it's taillights. The mister two is the obvious option if you are on a budget.

I recall when I had my 944S how many "real Porsches" I beat in autocrosses
due to the handling characterisitics.

Sorry, but I know one guy who went through 3 of them the reliability was so horrid. One engine blew up on him, the other two just had so many problems it wasn't even funny. He ended up getting an MR2 spyder ( new model ) and is very happy with it now. Funny how I have seen someone with the most applicable experience possible and my opinion isn't worth anything. rolleyes.gif Oh well.

Yeah, it is funny how you alwyas have the most applicable opinions on everything......

I'd have to say the MR2's. Sure, both are sporty, but everyone sees a Porsche and thinks FAST alot more than a Toyota. Plus, those MR2 Turbo's can easily make TONS of power. And who doesn't love having an exhaust thats all of 2.5' long....

eh... one of my good friends has a 944 s2... he's hosting the largest gathering of 944 waterpumpers in the country this july... right next door to me, i've seen what they can do, and i will have to say, if you find a well taken care of subject.. then reliability is not an issue with these cars.. just like our volvo's.. comparing a mr2 to a 944 is a joke just like your life. j/k :-p ph34r.gif

were expecting roughly 60+ porsches to show up for this event.. with some aircooled brethren making appearances as well, it will be good fun smile.gif

My next car will most likely be a '93 MR2 turbo. With an MBC they will run 13's. I've been researching them for about a month now and they seem to be very reliable and they have a strong aftermarket. I have a great forum for them aswell, check it out here. You can get nice low 12's or even 11's on those with the stock internals. With a nice subtle body kit these cars look gorgeous. I don't know anything about the porsche but I'm guessing cost would be a big factor. Good luck with the decision.
Ignorance is bliss.

Of course you realize that out of 40K plus 944's made your "second hand experience" deals with JUST 3 CARS?

I don't even want to get in the statistics of that equation, needles to say it won't be pretty. Nevermind the variables invloved in getting a used car ( cars overral condition, where they checked by a knowledgeble 944 technician, etc.)

I was the third owner of a 87' 944S which I bought with 68K miles. The first owner of the car was the 2nd owner's boss, and they were both bank executives. Needless to say the car was virtually perfect when I bought it.

Would I do it again? hardly, even though the car was ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE, the maintenance issues were too much for a college student, and someone on it's first job out of college. I will always miss that car!

I did say that if on a budget get the MR2, but hardly anything compares to a 944 or a 951, or even a 968.

On a few other notes,

Yes, three cars, and 3 out of 3 had severe maintenance issues and mechanical problems. Wow, look at those statistics: 100% of them. Darn, those AREN'T pretty.

Thank you, and in my opinion the money spent on the maintenance of that kids cars wasn't worth it if you compared it to the amount of performance it provided stock AND modified. Stock 1/4 miles for the 944 Turbo and for the MR2 Turbo are 14.2 and 14.7 respectively. I'd guess that you can get either car into the 13s with just an MBC, but you are going to be spending a lot more money maintaining the Porsche.

I don't think you should have to modify a Porsche as ugly as the 944 (so something beautiful like a Boxster is a different story) to just to be able to get it to 60 in under 5 seconds. Porsche's are supposed to not only be performance cars, but beautiful as well, and the 944 is not beautiful in my opinion, hence why I go for the MR2 even if they cost the same. And just how much more do you think the Porsche is capable of than the MR2. I see a lot more MR2s in the 10s and 11s than 944 Turbos.

Okay, I'm done. (I bet you're glad.)

the 944 is one of the cleanest looking sports cars ever produced by porsche... and original.. perfect 50/50 weight distribution.. and okay.. can you fit this much beer into a mr2 ? CAN YOU ? laugh.gif

another thing.. most 944 enthusiasts aren't hell bent on racing straight lines... they're all about handling, as for maintenance it only gets expensive if you cant do the work yourself...

i like the porsche much more but for a weekend racer the mr2 is much more realistic

and who cares about quarter mile times if you aren't on the street/drag strip? If its weekend racer its supposed to be fun and hopefully your organization classes the cars so that both cars can be very competitive
