Mike H. Rating: 9 Comments: Although I didn't buy my car there (bought my C70 Coupe at Volvo Irvine), their service department is top notch. they are very courteous and extremely helpful in trying to resolve problems. Although they don't provide loaners, if your car needs to stay for a while, they will provide you with a $25 rental from Hertz (conveniently located in the same building), so basically you get a rental for free. they seem to know their stuff as they always provide explanations of repairs or warranty work when you pick up the car. They only reason I didn't give them a 10 is because sometimes when it gets really busy, they sometimes forget to call you to let you know that your car is ready. Also, the follow-up service rep can be annoying sometimes, constantly calling you. Other than that, two thumbs up from me.

Rating: 9 Comments: The staff at the dealership is so helpful when I go in there for anything! Everything there is clean and in order. The only reason I didnt give them a ten was due to the fact they dont have very many volvos in stock because as you know volvos sell like hotcakes so I guess thats a good thing.Other than that its one of the best Ive seen and worked with.

Chad Rating: 10 Comments: My experience with this dealership has been the most positive car buying experience of my life. I was amazed by the high level of customer service and follow through. I am an extremely finicky customer and the sales manager was patient to the end. He ordered the exact car I wanted and I got it for a lower price than anywhere else I could find. The staff is well organized and they went the extra mile for me and my wife. I highly recommend this dealership to new or used Volvo shoppers.

John H. Rating: 8 Comments: The sales staff is extremely professional, and more then willing to do what is necessary to make the customer happy. The service department is excellent, with the exception of some minor details. Since is it a small dealership, the customer needs to make an appointment for a repair. However, the advantage is that with all repairs the customer will get a rental car or a new volvo loaner car for free. Along with being a small service department, comes the problem of being shorthanded thereby creating problems with servicing your car within a decent time. This creates the problem that the dealer want to get the repairs done in an acceptable time to the customer by speeding up the repairs, but they end up overlooking some details which makes it necessary for the customer to return a second time for them to complete the repair that should have been done right the first time.

CBHnry Rating: 2 Comments: My pre-sales experience at Volvo of Irvine ultimately drove me to Volvo of Cerritos for the purchase of my new S60. At both dealers I was working with the “Internet” sales person… Irvine tried but their follow-through was terrible. I literally had to track the sales person down via the phone and a return call was a rarity. I got the impression that the Internet sales person was overwhelmed. She actually made a verbal commitment to me over the phone and begged me to come down to the dealership so she could make her end of the month “bonus,” all this at about 7:00 at night. I obliged and got to the dealer at 8:00, and when I arrived I waited an hour only to be told to go home…because they “miss-quoted” the numbers over the phone. The final deal-breaker was the fact that I wanted the optional 17” Tethys wheels on my base 2.4 S60. Now I know this isn’t an option on the base model but as a buyer I want what I want, I’m willing to pay and I expect to be accommodated. They simply wouldn’t/couldn’t do it…this despite the fact that there are numerous T5’s on the lot with BBS wheels; where did their original wheels go?? At any rate despite these things, on a Saturday afternoon I was heading for Volvo of Irvine to buy my S60 with the ugly base wheels from the person that wouldn’t return my calls and made me wait around one night for no reason. And then I got thinking, “this is nuts” from the car I called Volvo of Cerritos (had never talked to them before) and asked to speak with the Internet sales person. Told them the car I was looking for (color etc..) and told them that if they would be willing to put the 17” Tethys wheels on my base S60, I’d buy the car from them in a hour. They said, “OK” switched the wheels (for $750) and I drove home from Cerritos that day in my new Volvo. They have been great, I would highly recommend them to anyone! Both dealers were $500.00 over Invoice. I don’t fault the salesperson at Irvine for the wheel situation (probably a management call) but the late night deal along with the lack of follow-through is unacceptable from someone who wants my business. Cerritos was willing to go the extra yard to earn my business. And they have never skipped a beat.

Anonymous Rating: 3 Comments: My car made several visits to Irvine Volvo, with the following experiences: I took the car in for a repair of a intermittent rear door power lock, which Irvine Volvo insisted that they could not reproduce the problem, in spite of the fact that when I spoke to another dealer, their reaction was that the door locks on the '98 x70's were dropping like flies, and it was always the same parts: the door lock motor. They finally fixed the problem, but it took a total of four visits, and I was getting ready to PAY for the repair (my car was under warranty) because the hassle of the warranty repair was beginning to exceed the cost of the repair. They also missed the fact that some of the wiring leading to the lock motor was damaged, so it failed again within months. The second major problem I had with Volvo Irvine was over something as simple as an oil change: I had originally made an appointment (on the following Monday) for a lube-oil-filter service, and requested that they fix a front turn signal that was blinking fast. On Wednesday afternoon, I discovered that I was going to have to make an unexpected road trip on Friday, so I called Volvo Irvine to ask if they could work the service in on Thursday. They said they could, so I dropped the car off at 9am Thursday for these two items. I then called at 4pm to check on the status, and they informed me that they were unable to complete the service and would need to keep the car until the following day. I informed them that I was picking up the car at 6pm, finished or not. I then made arrangements to have the oil change done at an independent mechanic the following morning. When I arrived to pick up the car, they informed that it had been finished, contrary to what they'd told me on the phone. None of the work was outright incompentent, but the rather poor customer service leaves me reluctant to recommend them. Oh yes, beware of their highly touted shuttle service: They'll drop you off and pick you up from work, but their shuttle driver quits at 3pm, so if you work until 5pm like most of us, you're out of luck.

B.M. Rating: 4 Comments: The salesmens attitudes and manners are unnacceptable for any dealership. They were very rude to me(I bought 3 volvos since 1994). I would never recommend the sales department to anyone. The service department is pretty good. They try their best to keep the customers happy but the mechanics aren't very bright and frequently misdiagnose a problem, fix something incorrectly, forget to do something, or break something else when fixing something.

Rating: 1 Comments: This is the worst dealership I have ever put my foot in. After we brought our s70 in for little warrenty work, I was promised to have the car back same day and worse case next morning. The dealer had my car for 3 days without touching it, would not give me a loaner car and on top of that when I went to go pick up my car 3 days later only 1 of the 4 things was fixed!! Not to mention that 1 month later the same problem re occured on 2 items that they "fixed" This dealership is terrible, has no customer service, and you have to call them to get information, if you never called they would probably keep your car! I would not recommend anyone buying a car from them or taking it thre for service. They just out right suck! I'll take my car 100 miles to the next dealership when needed. - Isaac

Skippy Rating: 1 Comments: I wish I could have put a negative number for the rating of this joke of a service center. I was lied to and ripped off by these people for two years. And my car is still trying to recover from what they did to it. Everytime I took my car in for a simple 5K mile service, I would end up with some major repair, either while it was there or with in a week or two. 1) Brakes kept going out less than 10K miles after being replaced. I was told this is common. "Your model has smaller brakes" Then why did the factory brakes last almost 78K miles?!?! 2) They said my radiator cap was broken and that they fixed it. My cap was fine, same ol' one... the hose broke and they rigged it by splicing the hose and cramming it on the hose out take. Not to mention my radiator had NO coolant, just plain water. 3) I kept hearing a rattle under my car, in the front end. "We couldn't hear it. We didn't find anything wrong" Four times I was told this. Turned out the front struts were collapsing. They let my family drive a car with broken struts for almost two years! 4) I spent a lot of money on a transmission service only to find out a few weeks later, that they messed up. "Oh, guess we missed that". And then laughed about it. My transmission was fine before the service. 5) I told them that I only wanted Volvo built parts, not Ford built parts. "No problem. I understand" Come to find out, that Ford built parts are all that they put on my car. 6) Wind noise coming from front passenger window. Wind noise gone, window won't roll all the way down. I was told that it would cost ME almost $300 to fix. 7) If you don't drive a Mercedes you get treated like white trash by Mike Morgan, the service manager.

Alex Rating : 1 Comments: An overall very poorly ran dealership which is surprising since they sell the most expensive cars in town. Overall customer service is terrible. I've had several bad experiences there similar to the ones posted on this board. I was told my strut mounts were broken and the cost was several hundred to fix. My favorite auto repair place where I normally take my cars showed me exactly what they considered broken and it was basically some minor cracked rubber with minimal wear. I have a friend who bought his Volvo there and his story is much much worse than mine. I cant believe what they have put him through.
All in all, for the money you fork out to have your car serviced at Modesto European, you should receive better service. I will say that Nick who works in the service department is diligent and nice to deal with.

Rating:1 Comments: I must concure with everyone here. I have had innumerable problems with this dealership... To sum them up simply they are very unprofessional, incapible of telling time, returning calls, taking care of mistakes, much less responsibility for thier mistakes. AVOID THIS DEALER AT ALL COST!

Pleasanton Volvo Pleasanton, CA Overall Rating 5
Peter Cohen Rating: 9 Comments: Although I did not buy my car there, Pleasanton Volvo has treated me very professionally on the two occasions that I brought my car in for warranty work. Both times, they gave me a loaner car. (Selling dealer- Smythe Volvo in San Jose told me that loaner cars were only supplied for paid maintenance visits, not warranty work. All work was done correctly the first time. The service writer went and brought out the mechanic to speak with me when they needed more info, or I had additional questions. The only negatives were: My wife brought the car in for a headlight that was burned out, and one of the service writers acted like it was just too much trouble to deal with. Another service writer quickly cam and took over. He changed the bulb himself immediately. Again Excellent service. The service manager (Hans??) has an attitude. Try not to deal with him. These two minor things are the only reason I did not rate them at "10".

Boris Atlas Rating: 1 Comments: A request has been made to take the car to an alignment shop to adjust front end of a brand new V70 that was pulling to the right. The responce was: the shop foreman adjusted the tire pressures and now all is O.K. ?! The mechanic adjusted the pressures to mask the pull, and after insisting on an alignment shop and a printed job sheet from them, it was clear that the front alignment was out of spec. on a brand new car ! If I could I would choose a rating in the minus side for such incompetence !

L.A. P Rating: 1 Comments: We bought two new volvos here. When I bought the first one 850r the Taiwanese background salesman was very very courteous, I almost felt embarrassed. Got a great deal on the car and enjoyed the experience. When my parents went back to buy the second car, the nice man was not working there anymore I believe. A new guy who was still in "training" when I bought the first car sold my parents their car a year later. My father said his shopping experience was fair. As for their service department, generally it has been fine but on two occassions they were not courteous at all. Once they ignored us for a long time and none of the Service Reps would come to tell us what is taking so long. Finally my father found the Salesman who sold him the car and asked if their service department is a complete 180' from the sales. They finally decide to take interest in our case. The second event involved a visit that required our car be left there for a while. Based on their policy we were entitled to a rental car or loaner, but they decided to ignore us again. After finding the Salesman that sold us the car again the ignorant service rep. came to resolve the issue but with a dirty face that should be wipped clean with dirty toilet paper!

Paul Martinez Rating: 9 Comments: I recently took my 850 turbo to the dealer for repairs, actually I had to have it towed in, but the staff at Rusnak was very helpful, and helped me rent a car and made sure that I got a dicounted rate. I would rate the service excellent.

P.L. Rating: 9 Comments: I was on a business trip and away from my normal dealership when I had a problem occur. I was in San Diego at the time and took it into San Diego Volvo. Eventhough I wasn't a normal customer, nor purchased the car from them, the service advisor and the rest of the service department treated me with the utmost respect and consideration. They were extremely polite and attentive to my problem. After pulling in to the service drive I was immediately greeted and within 2 to 3 minutes there was a mechanic working on my car. Within a matter of 15 minutes they were able to diagnoise the problem and within an hour I was back on the road. I would highly recommended this dealership to anyone.

L.A. P Rating: 1 Comments: This dealer is very small but due to its location it is more convenient. Their sales department are OK, I did check them out each time I shop for a new Volvo but their price are not as good as some bigger dealers. We have two late model volvos that are serviced there regularly, mainly oil change and small fixes. It is much closer than the dealer in Pasadena where we bought both cars. Anyway, past visits have been ok so I'd give it an average rating. However, the latest visit was terrible! Our 850r was brought in for squeeky dash/center console, loose driver seat, faded badge on the rear of the car, and oil change. The car is still under warranty for a few more months but they wouldn't cover any of the items. Fine, we'll live with it until we have time to try another dealer for a second opinion.

Smith Volvo San Luis Obispo, CA Overall Rating 3
John Rating: 3 Comments: Okay, my beef with them is on 2 levels: their service sucks, and their sales is worse. I took my 850 R in for routine service, and they somehow caught that the rear overload cushion had slipped from it's mount (a largely pointless repair, but expensive), but somehow, incredibly, even though I asked them to make a careful check of the engine (it had been shifting funny), they missed the fact that the transmission had come off it's mountings and was resting on the frame. How? I have no idea. When I took the car elsewhere, the problem was spotted right away, and the mechanic even took me under the lift to point it out. Wasn't exactly easy to miss. As to their sales department, I went in thinking of trading the car in for something newer (better safety), and their sales staff hardly let me near the new cars. I've never before seen a sales staff chase off an interested potential buyer. Now, rather than deal with them, I just take the car down to LA when I need it servic!

Malcolm Moore Rating: 1 Comments: Absolutely awful. I bought a 1995 850 Turbo in near-mint condition and after the sale, the salesman (Greg Stone) did his best to distance himself from me. They wanted to charge me $320 for what was basically a light reset. One time they held my car for a whole day and did absolutely nothing to it. Nine months later, my mother was in the market for an 850, and the same Greg Stone attempted to sell my mother not one, but two Volvos that we could tell had been run down. We ended up buying from a private seller.

South Bay Volvo Torrance, CA Overall Rating 8
Anonymous Rating: 8 Comments: GREAT service department (a 10)-very good work and reasonable prices. They do aftermarket upgrade installs if asked (and provide objective opinions on which ones to spend money on), and their labor costs are similar to the other indie shops in the area. I've been taking my 850 Turbo there since I bought it, and they have always done ONLY what was required to fix the problem. If you go, see John (service mgr), Reid or Greg, although their entire service staff is top notch, IMHO. The 8 rating is for the overall dealership-the owner got stingy and eliminated loaner cars, and their current sales manager reminds me more of the local smarmy Chevy dealer than the one I dealt with when I bought my car (ie, sales "games" vs no games). I got an informal offer of roughly half the Kelly wholesale value of my car as a possible trade on a demo, which helped me calibrate the sales department. Bottom line: excellent service department, but I would go elsewhere to purchase.

comments = I am the original owner of a 1985 740 Turbo with nearly 300,000 miles on the odometer. While this is certainly not a late-model vehicle, I have maintained it very well since new. I did, however have the misfortune of a breakdown due to a failed clutch slave cylinder in downtown Los Angeles on a Sunday afternoon and I had the car towed to Volvo of Cerritos as it was roughly midway between where I live (in Orange County) and where the vehicle failed. In all honesty, I feel I am being rather generous to rate my experience with this dealer as a "4"; however, I will allow for the fact that my vehicle appears to have been competently serviced as a plus in the final balance. Nevertheless, I was charged $1500.00 for a new clutch, pressure plate, slave cylinder, and rear main bearing which certainly seems to be EXTREMELY out of line based on the cost of previous clutch jobs even at other dealerships. My last clutch job was performed at Irvine Volvo and was less than $600.00 total. While this did not include a slave cylinder (as it was not required), it is difficult for me to rationalize my misfortune costing me $1500.00 even allowing for inflation!! The day will come when I must replace my trusty old 740 Turbo and it will most likely be with another new Volvo. However, I would be loathe to begin a serious relationship with Volvo of Cerritos as I truly fear I could never afford the exhorbitant cost of their service.

Rating: 7 Comments: The sales department is as slimmy as a slug, and cannot be trusted. The sales manager is extremely unwilling to cooperate with the potential customers, and untrustworthy. As for the service department, they are acceptable, but slow. The shop is clean and organized, but there is no attention to detail from the mechanics. Things are done 95% complete. The advisors are cooperative and willing to explain the problems to the customers, however if you want a loaner car you have to have major work completed on your car and they have to have you car overnight. Therefore, the customer is stuck paying for a rental car and the repairs at dealer prices.

Anonymous Rating: 5 Comments: A total of two visits: The first one was to diagnose the fact that the cruise control on my '98 was quit working. After two hours and forty-five minutes they figured out that the cruise controls on the turn signal stalk had failed, and sent me on my way, having been assured by the service writer that it was repaired. I got the car out on the freeway and tried the cruise control. Still dead. I immediately returned to Volvo Orange County and complained. The service writer informed me that the part they needed needed to be ordered and that indeed they had not repaired the problem. They promised to call me as soon as the part came in, which took almost two weeks. It took them just under two hours to install the switch upon my return visit. I also asked them to reset the service light at the same time, and they informed me that they charged $15 for this service. I might be willing to understand this if somebody just walked off the street and asked for this, but in view of the fact that they billed Volvo for close to $200 for the cruise control repair, I thought it was a little tacky. Due to my limited experience, and the experience when I did visit them, I can only recommend Volvo Orange County with caution. I'd probably pick them over Volvo Irvine, however.

RV Rating: 10 Comments: This dealer has ALWAYS taken care of my Volvo problems. I have been doing business with them over 20 years and they are the only dealer I will recommend. Sure, from time to time there are mis-understandings, but in every instance they go the extra mile to make things right.

l COMMENTS: The work they performed was adequate, and relatively quick, but I could not believe how rude the service managers were when I picked up the car! I had dropped it off on a saturday after they had closed, after making arrangements to do so. I was first wary when the man on the phone kept calling me "Dave", after I had told him my name was Daniel. When I came to pick up my car, not only was I not greeted in the service office, no one even asked me if I needed help. After standing at the counter in a room full of employees standing around for about five minutes, someone finally asked me what I needed. When I told him I was picking up my car, and my name is Daniel, he said he had no repairs for a "Daniel", but of course there was one for "Dave". After informing him that I was not Dave, but that is my car, he coldly gave me the invoice and told me to go to the other office to pay. Fortunately the cashier was very nice and understood that while my debit card said D!
aniel and the invoice said Dave, it was still my car. Of course, I still get service reminders from them addressed to Dave. Although I may be a 27 year old who looks 19, if I'm paying your dealership $500 for a minor repair on my Volvo, I expect to be treated with the same respect as all customers. On another note, the repair was top notch. I guess the srevice managers could learn a thing or two about high quality work from their mechanics.
