Seat Back Cable Replacement
From Bay 13

To start with the parts above will be needed, the cable is about $42 at your Volvo dealer, the hog rigs can be bought at sears (dealer cost is ridiculous). I have heard that people have used tie wraps instead of hog rings. I'll describe the tools needed as I go along. Note the part number on the bag 3539655. Just a few pictures to show hog rings and pliers. The yellow arrow shows a hog ring crimped.

A close up shot of the heads of the pliers, you can see how the rings are bent by the tool.

Move the seat as far forward as you can. Move the seat controls out of the way by pulling up in the front, and then back. Leave the controls hooked up, just maneuver it around to the front of the seat.

The lumbar support knob has to come out. Turn the knob counter clockwise as far as you can, then pull out on the knob and continue to turn C/C wise, more force will be needed, just keep pulling back and twisting and it will come out. Take off the knob and trim piece. Note in the above picture the seat controls are moved. The next step is to begin cutting hog rings that hold the seat back together. The first rings to be cut are on the bottom of the seat back. You have to pry your hand and dikes in to cut the rings. (From the front) There should be 4 across the bottom. Once the rings across the bottom are cut you need to unhook the bottom sides of the seat back. The above photo has two circles intending to show where plastic stand offs are on the other side. By pushing your fingers up behind the side you can feel where the two clips hold the cover in place, just push up on the cover (on the inside) and it will free the cover from the internal clips.
