This posting covers the replacement of the electrical portion of the ignition switch on the 850, however the same procedures apply to the S/V/70. Reasons for replacing the switch include; ABS/TRACS light staying on but upon wiggling the key will go out, headlights with intermittent operation, especially over bumps, difficulty getting out of park at times and wiggling the key helps, seat belt lights not going out.

         Drop the steering wheel down and pull it back. You will need a 15 torx and a 25 torx to get the bottom plastic cover off the steering column. What I use is a 15 torx that I picked up at Sears because it is about 8 inches long and can reach up into the small holes that the blue arrows are pointing too. The yellow arrows are where the 25 torx screws go. Once the screws are off the bottom you can remove the top half.

         Once you have worked the top off, slide the column lock open and work the bottom plastic cover off, it fits snug over the key side of the ignition.

         Once the bottom is off and the steering lock down and the column pulled out all the way, you will have a nice view of the connector that goes on the switch. The connector just pulls off the switch do it carefully, there are 8 pins on the switch and the connector cover could come off in your hand.

         Above, shows the connector off the switch. Two regular screws hold the switch on the column. The column is made of aluminum and so is the switch, so don't over tighten the screws when putting the new one on.

         Put the new switch on the same way the old one was, notice it is keyed, if you get it on 180 out then the connector won't go on correctly.
