850 Door and Hinge Lubrication
From Bay 13
To keep the squeaks down and the doors and lids moving smoothly, about every 5K or so you should take the time lubricate your Volvo. Many products are available on the market, white lithium, some use WD 40, what the shop I work in uses is a product called GEL-LUBE. Gel-Lube is made by curtisol, and is clear when sprayed on. www.CurtisIndustries.com is the web site for the gel lube. Another product used in the past is HHS 2000 by Wurth, it comes in a green and black can. What makes the lubrication easier is if the can has the small straw to attach to the nozzle.

The hood latch and rubber bump stop should be sprayed. By lubricating the rubber stop for the hood it helps to keep the rubber from sticking to the hood and pulling off when you open the hood. Left latch showing, don't forget the right.

The hinge for the hood has two pivot points on the car and one fancy one on the hood its self.

All of the doors have 3 hinges, the top and bottom are the same and the center one is different. The picture is not showing the bottom one, just lube the moving parts, and on the center hinge where the rod goes into the door, lube the two rollers that the rod slides into. The rollers are not in the picture, it's hard to get a camera angle to see them.

The door latches and the trunk latch are all the same, just spray lube into the latch, you might open and close the door a few times and add more lube.

If you have a station wagon, the right rear seat has been known to "Chirp" with age, the solution is to use a bearing grease on the rubber stop and lots on the latch with it closed manually, then opened. Some of the plastic trim on the Volvo interior has been know to have creeks and squeaks, short of removing the item and lining it with felt tape or rubber compound, you can spray a silicon spray and get reasonable results some times. Cold weather seems to bring out the worst in noises.
