1999 and on Non-Turbo Plug Access
From Bay 13

This is the top of the engine on the non-turbo (DENSO). 8, 30 torx screws hold the plastic cover in place, remove the torx screws and then lift off the cover. There are two clips on the left side of the cover that help hold it down, one in the front and one in the rear.

With the plastic cover off the 5 coil packs can be seen. I number them just to keep them straight. Each coil pack has a 10mm bolt holding it in place, remove the bolts and then the coil pack can be wiggled out. Should you forget to number them and you are mixed up, each coil pack has a connector with 4 wires. All the connectors have a Red, Black, and yellow wire, Coil pack one also has a yellow and black wire, coil pack 2 has a orange and black wire, coil pack 3 has a blue and black wire, coil pack 4 has a green and black and coil pack 5 has a yellow and red.

This is the view with the coil packs out and looking down at the actual spark plugs. The Volvo plugs are the multi-electrode plugs and cost about $15. The 10mm bolts that hold the coil packs in place are also grounding the coil pack, ensure they are snug but don't over tighten.
