| If you drive an 850
you probably have seen trim in the condition above. Age and
neglect can cause the 850s roof trim to crack and peel. The
most common fix is to replace the trim, but that is expensive.
Most dealers charge over 400 dollars for the new pieces.
With this guide you can fix the trim with it either on or off
of the car. |
 |
| Start by cutting off
the old trim covers. I cut the top first then pull back the
material the cut free the bottom from the inside. When
cutting be sure not to cut off any of the rubber. It it
attached to the metal underneath in the same area as the pieces you are
removing so care and patience is needed. |

|
| With the two cuts completed you will be left
with a bare section of metal. Depending on the age and
condition of the car you may have glue residue that needs to be
removed. Sandpaper makes short work of any material left
bonded to the metal. |
 |
| With the metal sanded and
cleaned you can now tape off the rubber. Depending on the
paint you use you may need to first prime the metal. I opt
for bumper paint as it does not need primer and will flex with the trim
to prevent future cracking. |
 |
| Before the piece
dries remove the tape. After 24 hours you can recondition the
rubber on the piece and re-install. If you prefer a more
stock look 1000 grit sand paper used carefully on the paint will
provide a flat look instead of a glossy appearance. |
