This guide will take you through
the steps to convert your S60/S60R/V70/V70R DOT turn signal into e-code
look turn signals.
This
modification may not be legal in your area. Verify before proceeding.
Before you begin this modification, set aside at the least 6 hours for
labor and 24-36 hours for everything to set up or dry. To
start, use the lens removal guide found at http://www.volvospeed.com/Repair/p2_lens.php |
|
|
| 1. With the bezel
removed and
the headlight body set aside, drill out the three mounting tabs on the
underside of the bezel. With the three tabs drilled out, the
orange reflector will fall free. While you have the drill
out,
take the time to drill several holes in the area where you will be
applying autobody filler as seen below. These holes help
assure
that the autobody filler will stick to the bezel. Now scuff the working area with 100-200 grit sandpaper and wipe it
clean with a rag soaked in alcohol. |
|
|
| 2. Now fill the
recess in the bezel with auto body filler. Keep applying
layers until you are flush with the rest of the headlight bezel as
shown below. It is better to fill with multiple thin layers
instead of one thick one. A sanding block will help you keep all
the lines
straight while sanding. |
|
|
| 3. Once you are
happy with the contour, turn your attention to matching the angles of
the bezel with your layer of autobody filler. Again a small
sanding block will aid greatly in this task. Once you reach
this stage you can call it quits, or you can opt for some of the
details found on the OEM e-code turn signals. Using a small
piece of sandpaper you can add finishing details to the end of the turn
signal cut out. |
|
|
| 4. With all the
sanding and filling, the new improved bezel must be repainted.
Choose a paint that is suited for both plastic and reasonably
high heat. I opted for paint code vol932. Before
painting be absolutely sure there are no pin holes in the filler.
If there are, a glazing puddy can be applied. Scuff
the entire bezel with 600 grit sandpaper and once again wipe off any
excess dust/oil with a rag soaked in alcohol. |
 |
Above you can see a
close up of the finished product.
|
 |
| 5. Before putting
your masterpiece back together, I suggest letting it dry for a minimum
of 24 hours. |
